BURTON, S.C. — A firefighter is in critical condition after suffering a medical emergency while working an accident scene Sunday afternoon.
The Island Packet reported that firefighter and EMT Stuart Hardy, 31, with the Burton (S.C.) Fire District, was taken to a hospital and listed in critical but stable condition.
Fire officials did not immediately provide information on the medical emergency.
Hardy, a Marine Corps veteran, is married with three young daughters and has worked for the district for about a year. He completed the fire academy course in September.
Hardy was assisted by emergency crews from Burton and Beaufort County EMS. Additional emergency personnel were called to assist people involved in the crash, none of whom required transport to the hospital, according to the report.
