Emergency crews cut man free from truck

After a head-on collision, the truck driver was trapped for more than hour

WORSLEY, England — A man had to be cut free from a truck by firefighters after being involved in a head-on collision.

A white Ford Transit van and a scrap metal truck collided in Worsley Road, Worsley, at 1.50pm on Wednesday.

The man, aged in his 60s, who was driving the scrap metal truck was trapped for more than an hour while firefighters freed him after the vehicle crushed around him.

He suffered a fracture to his knee, an ankle injury and a suspected broken wrist.

The driver of the Transit van, a man, aged in his 40s, was released after the door was removed by firefighters.

He suffered a neck injury.

A passenger in the scrap metal truck suffered facial injuries.

An air ambulance attended the scene but the casualties were taken to hospital by ambulance. Firefighters were on scene for up to three hours.
