PAPILLION, Neb. — Over $25,000 was raised this weekend in an outpouring of support for a volunteer firefighter-EMT who is recovering from a double lung transplant.
Mike Bramhall, 23, underwent the procedure in August, and continues to recover at Duke Medical Center. Bramhall has been battling cystic fibrosis his entire life, and earlier in the year had to take a leave from work as his condition worsened.
Bramhall found out in June that he was approved for a lung transplant.
“There is nothing in this world that makes me as happy as firefighting/EMS,” Bramhall said. “If I have to get a lung transplant to continue to do that, then that’s exactly what I’m going to do.”
The funds raised will go towards Bramhall’s current and future medical expenses and needs, reported KETV.
“I wish I could take away the pain, but it’s been so worth it is so him go through this transplant and come out better on the other side,” said his sister Jeanne Bramhall.
The Bramhall family intends to eventually raise $150,000. So far they have raised $90,000.
