Cancer patient takes wheel of ambulance to save medic’s life

Emergency room manager said that without Nayet’s help, Pina could have died

LENS, France — A man with late-stage cancer saved the life of a medic who had a heart attack while driving him to the hospital.

BBC News reported that Christian Nayet, 60, took the wheel of the ambulance after the driver, Jean-Francois Pina, complained of pins and needles in his fingers. Pina was taking Nayet for a scan at the hospital when he fell ill.

According to BBC News, Nayet said, “Give me the keys, trust me! My life is not in danger, but yours is!”

Nayet rushed Pina to a nearby hospital and doctors operated on him within 10 minutes of his arrival, according to BBC News.

“We drove fast,” Nayet said. “I couldn’t find the siren, but I managed to turn the lights on and told him to put his arm out the window to signal to the cars to let us pass.”

Emergency room manager, Frederic Allienne, said that without Nayet’s help, Pina “could have died,” according to BBC News.
