SALINAS, Calif. — Salinas firefighters helped deliver a baby Wednesday. Sort of.

A couple driving to the hospital had to pull over when the woman started giving birth, but when firefighters and paramedics responding to their 911 call arrived, the baby had already “popped out,” Division Chief Scott Myhre said. Firefighters got to cut the umbilical cord, he said.

The healthy girl and her mother were taken to Natividad Medical Center.

“Everybody was happy,” Myhre said.
