SANTA CLARITA, Calif. — Authorities say a truck veered off a Southern California road and plunged 200 to 300 feet down a canyon, killing three people and injuring two others.
California Highway Patrol Officer Eric Priessman tells City News Service the crash occurred between midnight and 2 a.m. Friday but wasn’t reported until 7:30 a.m., when a survivor regained consciousness and called 911.
The crash occurred in an area of Santa Clarita that’s popular with off-roaders.
Priessman says the driver apparently was doing “off-road style driving” and lost control of the truck.
Authorities are still investigating whether alcohol or other factors were involved.
Priessman says the crash killed two men and a woman who were around 20 years old. Two men around the same age had moderate injuries and are expected to survive.
