NEWPORT, Va. — Two firefighters and a patient in an ambulance had to be taken to a hospital this morning after a crash involving a truck.
About 1 a.m., the ambulance was going north in the left lane of Warwick Boulevard near Mercury Boulevard when the truck merged onto Warwick and tried to make a turn in front of the ambulance, a police news release says. The ambulance driver tried to avoid the truck, but the truck continued into the same lane as the ambulance and they collided.
The ambulance ran onto the median and stopped.
The driver of the truck was unharmed. All three people in the ambulance were treated and released.
Drugs and alcohol were not factors in the crash, the release says.
The truck driver, James Timothy Davis, 65, was charged with reckless driving, the release says. He lives in the 900 block of Crowell Ave. in Chesapeake.
