COVENTRY, England — Eleven people were injured as two buses crashed at Pool Meadow bus station on Saturday lunchtime.

A single decker and a double decker bus collided at the busy station in Fairfax Street, Coventry, at around 12.40pm.

Around 25 people were thought to be passengers in the buses at the time of the accident.

Witnesses at the station described how the single decker bus came around a corner and smashed into the double decker as it pulled out from the stop.

A 46-year-old from Potters Green who did not want to be named, said: “The smaller bus came around the corner speeding and hit the other bus as it was pulling out.

“It is only a 10mph zone here. “You can see the damage the bus has done to the double decker. If it has managed to cause that much damage the bus must have been coming at some speed.”

Of the 11 injured, seven people were treated by paramedics at the scene for multiple minor injuries, including cuts and bruises. They were discharged and did not require hospital treatment. The youngest patient treated was 17 years old.

Four people required hospital treatment. They included one woman in her 60s who suffered neck and chest pain, a pregnant woman in her 20s with cuts and bruises, and a woman in her 60s who had a serious hand injury and was also suffering from shock.

The driver of the single decker bus, a man believed to be in his late 30s, also suffered abdominal injuries and was taken to hospital.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Four people were treated at the scene for their injuries and required hospital treatment.

“All were transferred by ambulance to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire for further assessment and treatment.

“Fortunately, no one suffered lifethreatening injuries.”

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Police said enquiries were ongoing and officers were looking at CCTV footage to find out what happened.
