MILFORD, Mass. — A dialysis patient who was killed when the ambulance that was taking her home was struck by a car and rolled over in Milford yesterday was “a good mother and a good wife,” her grieving husband told the Herald.
“It’s kind of a shock to the family,” Allan Scott of Upton said of the midday crash that killed Karen Scott, 58, a mother of two and his wife of 25 years. “She was a good person, and we’re going to miss her.”
Police say the ambulance was westbound on Route 140 when a Mercedes-Benz ran a stop sign at Green Street, striking the emergency vehicle’s rear quarter panel and causing it to flip. The ambulance righted itself and landed on a guardrail, police said.
The Mercedes driver, identified by police as Lisa Zemack, 61, of Framingham, was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. She is charged with failure to stop and failure to grant the right-of-way, Milford police Sgt. John Sanchioni said. The accident remains under investigation. Sanchioni said it appears Scott’s stretcher “came loose” during the horrific crash.
A paramedic riding in the back with Scott was also hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
Allan Scott said his wife lived for the past year at the Beaumont Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Northbridge.
“I just go over every day and tell her I love her,” Allan Scott said, describing his after-work visits. “She’d throw me out when Judge Judy came on. She’d get all mad when they played the college basketball tournament because she’d say, ‘Don’t they know Judge Judy is on?’”
