BANNING, Calif. — An EMT was killed after being struck by a vehicle while helping a stranded motorist last week.
Stacey Warriner, 44, was on her way to work Jan. 23 when she pulled over on the highway to aid a motorist. The Press Enterprise reports that she was then struck by a passing car; she died of her injuries Jan. 25.
“I can even count how many times she made a stop on the side of the road to help people,” Warriner’s husband, Vaughn, told the publication.
Warriner has served as an EMT for over 18 years and spent the last three years serving at the Morongo Fire Department.
“As a professional EMT at Morongo, Stacey had a passion for helping others, so when she saw someone in need after a freeway crash, her first instinct was to help – that’s just who she was,” Morongo Tribal Chairman Robert Martin said. “Like all first responders, she put the well-being of others before her own.”
Warriner leaves behind her husband and two children.
A GoFundMe page has been created to help with funeral costs.
