EUFAULA, Okla. — An NTSB investigation into the fatal EagleMed helicopter crash is underway.
Pilot Matt Mathews died when the air ambulance crashed while returning from dropping off a patient at a Tulsa hospital. The crash site is in a rural area reachable only by a 30-minute drive by ATV, NewsOn6 reports.
“We have got a fairly large team,” NTSB investigator Tom Latson said. “At this time, we have three FAA inspectors on scene and three accident investigators from the aircraft manufacturer.”
Investigators are determining the best way to get the wreckage to a hangar in Dallas for further inspection.
The NTSB will release a preliminary report on the findings in the next few weeks, although it could take more than a year to determine the cause of the crash.
