Ohio Emergency Physician Receives High Honor From ACEP

New Orleans — Mark L. DeBard, MD, FACEP, an emergency physician from Columbus, Ohio, has received the Council Meritorious Service Award from the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) during its annual meeting in New Orleans.

“Dr. DeBard has provided critical direction to the specialty of emergency medicine, especially through his leadership on ACEP’s Council” said Dr. Brian Keaton, president of ACEP. “He has been active in almost every aspect of the Council and added tremendously to the growth and strength of ACEP.”

Dr. DeBard served for 12 years on the ACEP Council, as a national Councillor from Ohio and on the ACEP Board of Directors. He served as Council vice speaker and speaker from 1999 to 2005. The ACEP Council is the forum in which chapters and representatives of sections elect and provide guidance to the Board of Directors

Dr. DeBard’s leadership in the Ohio Chapter of ACEP earned him the Bill Hall Award for Service, the chapter’s award for significant contributions to emergency medicine. Ohio ACEP has also inducted him into its Quarter Century Club in recognition of more than 25 years of continuous service. Dr. DeBard received his medical degree from Ohio State University.

The Council Meritorious Service Award is presented to an ACEP member who has served as a councillor for at least three years and who has made consistent contributions to the growth and maturation of the ACEP Council.
