I purchased a pair of these monstrous miracle cutters 2 weeks ago. Luckily I only had to wait two days to be back on shift again, and caught a trauma call first thing in the morning! I couldn’t wait to try these shears out. We rolled up on a 2-vehicle MVA with entrapment, 2 patients; both complaining of neck and back pain (additional injuries as well). My partner and I scooped up a patient, did the spinal immobilization thing and headed for the hospital. It was then, prior to my trauma assessment, that I got to use my shears. They cut through the seams of my patient’s Levi jeans, his leather belt and several shirts like I was cutting a sheet of paper with a razor blade! It was amazing; it required no effort on my part whatsoever! No kinking, no pulling the material to flatten it out for the shears, no going around ANYTHING!! I must admit- I was a little skeptical at first, considering the price (we all know how little EMS providers are paid).....my mind is at ease now, they are worth twice what I paid for them.

As soon as I received my Big Shears in the mail I opened up the box and was stoked! They were awesome! The De Santis custom holster and the shears looked and felt remarkable. I could not wait to have the chance to use them on a call. It was a long few days until my next shift. I had three traumas the day I started back to work, and they cut just like the guys at Big Shears say they do. It is hard for me to describe the quality any better than they do right on the website. I have been in EMS for nearly 10 years (4 of those as a Paramedic). There are many tools that are required to perform this job with excellence. When I graduated from paramedic school, I decided that it was time to invest in my career by purchasing a high quality stethoscope. I had been using a less expensive model that was getting me by. After using my new stethoscope, it would be very difficult for me to go back to anything less. I can say the same about another tool… my pair of Big Shears. I was introduced to these shears about 4 years ago. A co-worker of mine had a pair, and I asked him where he got them so I could try them out. I had been using the standard issue shears, that my employer supplied, but they did not work well on heavy fabrics or leather. The first time I was able to use these new shears on a call I was amazed. I was able to cut the clothes off of a trauma victim in seconds, instead of minutes, which allowed me to promptly perform my paramedic assessment. I was able to transport my victim to the trauma center without further delay. Heaven forbid you should have a colleague go down, especially wearing turnout gear. What better way to remove this heavy duty protective gear than to cut it off using these new shears. I know once you use them, you will never go back to the “standard” pair again.

When I saw that you can leave your Big Shear story on the bigshears.com website I jumped at the opportunity. My first exposures to the Big Shears were in the Emergency Room when one of the other ER nurses came in with a pair. We were all amazed at the quality, but even more impressed when later that day the medics brought in a local drunk (you know the one). He had apparently been ‘sleeping’ under some sprinklers and was hypothermic. Cutting wet denim, particularly through the hems, seams, and waistband is nearly impossible with standard shears. I borrowed my friend’s Big Shears, and they cut the jeans like warm butter. From that point on, any day I needed to cut through clothing in the ER I was borrowing his Big Shears. The funny thing is that he never took his eyes off them, and said if I disappeared he’d hunt me down. Now that I have my own pair, I too keep my eyes on them. Once you have a pair of big shears, they become a tool you rely on frequently. The Big Shears are a prized possession to anyone who owns a pair. I say put bigshears.com to the test! Just try them, you really have nothing to loose.

These shears are amazing! To call a pair of Big Shears, “scissors “is like calling an Aircraft Carrier a boat. They have cut everything I put in front of them with ease. They also feel great in your hands. Solid. I have an extensive set of tools and consider my set of Big Shears one of my the most valuable tools in my set. They are worth twice what they cost!
