KANSAS CITY, Mo. — An 89-year-old man has died from heat stroke he suffered Thursday in Olathe, making him the heat wave’s third metro-area victim in less than a week.

The man had been hospitalized since about 6:30 p.m. Thursday, when emergency medical personnel found him sitting in his vehicle in the Wal-Mart parking lot at 13600 S. Alden St. The windows were up, the engine was off, and the man was wearing long underwear with long pants and a heavy, long-sleeved shirt, a Johnson County Med-Act spokesman said. His body temperature was 107 degrees.

An Olathe Medical Center spokeswoman confirmed the man’s death today.

The Jackson County Health Department reported Friday that a 47-year-old eastern Jackson County man had died because of exposure to excessive heat. No other information on the victim or the circumstances of the death was available.

Today, the Kansas City Health Department said heat exposure played a part in the death of a 74-year-old man in the 2300 block of Vine Street. The victim had a history of cardiovascular disease, the department said.
