VIENNA, Austria — Police say between 50 and 100 vehicles were involved in a pileup on an autobahn in western Austria Tuesday and that a “larger number” of people were believed injured.
Police in the province of Upper Austria said the collision happened on the westward A1 autobahn between the towns of Seewalchen and St. Georgen.
Austrian broadcaster ORF reported that some people were believed to be trapped in their vehicles and that rescue efforts were hampered by snowfall and wintry conditions.
