VALHALLA, N.Y. — A Rockland EMT whose right arm was amputated underwent surgery today on a fractured vertebrae.

Bonnie Ames, 21, was resting in the intensive care unit, still in critical but stable condition, her boss, Raymond Florida of Rockland Paramedic Services said.

Ames was seriously injured April 14 when a Regional EMS ambulance crashed with a flatbed truck parked on the shoulder of Route 59 near the car wash and Dunkin’ Donuts in West Nyack.

The crash sheared off the passenger side of the ambulance, where Ames sat. The right side of Ames body was seriously injured.

The driver, Regional EMT Scott Millar, 19, of Haverstraw suffered a head injury and fractures to his lower back and neck. He was transferred this week to Helen Hayes Hospital in West Haverstraw for rehabilitation.

Clarkstown police still were investigating the cause of the crash and want to interview Millar and Ames, when she’s able.

Buying a ticket to the New York Mets home game on EMS Night, May 13, will help raise money for Ames.

Tickets can be purchased on line for the event at http://mets.com/groups.
