Thales Provides Waterproof 2-Way Radios for the Department of Homeland Security in Hurricane Katrina Relief Initiative

CLARKSBURG, Md. - Thales Communications, Inc., has announced that it is teaming with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to provide interoperable communication equipment for DHS’ Hurricane Katrina cleanup and reconstruction efforts.

Thales Communications has supplied DHS with an inventory of its waterproof Thales 25 portable radio. The Thales 25 is the smallest profile, lightest, and most rugged Project 25-compliant portable digital radio available for homeland security, public safety, law enforcement, and land management. (Project 25 is the industry standard for interoperable government and public safety communications.) Important to DHS’ efforts, the Thales 25 will offer secure digital communications using Project 25 encryption standards to DHS personnel as well as interoperability links to local first responders on legacy analog mutual aid channels.

“We are just one of many companies rallying to do what we can to combat the devastation that Hurricane Katrina has left behind,” said Steve Nichols, public safety manager for Thales Communications. “The Thales 25 is a proven tool in emergency response situations where interoperability and ruggedization are essential. We are all pleased to be able to help.”
