NY ambulance with patient aboard crashes into car

WESTMORELAND, N.Y. — A few more patients were hospitalized than originally intended when an ambulance crashed into a disabled car on Stone Road Saturday evening — while they were transporting a patient from a previous car accident.

State police said shortly after 7 p.m., Manuel E. Nieves, 19, of Chittenango, and his girlfriend Albina Tursic, 21, of Syracuse, were northbound on Route 233. The two became involved in a verbal argument, and Tursic grabbed the steering wheel and jerked it to the right, troopers said.

The 2006 Chevy Cobalt then went off the east shoulder, where it hit an embankment, went airborne, overturned and then landed on a pickup truck that was parked in a front lawn.
