New ambulance to transport severely obese in Canadian providence

WINNIPEG, MB — A specially designed ambulance is about to make emergency care safer and less stressful for severely overweight patients, the city’s fire chief says.

Among other things, the new ambulance -- set to arrive in Winnipeg by month’s end -- will be equipped with a double-wide stretcher, a ramp-and-winch loading system and larger medical equipment to alleviate long-standing issues surrounding the transport of heavy patients.

“The missing link was always having a way to transport people safely while maintaining their dignity,” fire chief Jim Brennan told Sun Media.
