NASHVILLE, N.C. — A local emergency services worker will receive an award in March for his work in trying to prevent child abuse.
Nash County paramedic Cleveland Hunt will receive the Donna J. Stone Memorial Award for his involvement in promoting the Safe Surrender Law, which allows new mothers to give up their newborns up to seven days after birth.
A 2-day-old dead infant – posthumously named John Nash — was discovered in February 2007 in a Rocky Mount Dumpster outside of a Food Lion. Rocky Mount police are treating the case as a homicide.
