BRANSON, Mo. — An EMS agency’s AED program has been credited with helping save the life of a man who collapsed at a gym Monday.
After a runner collapsed at an indoor track, bystanders called 911. A dispatcher instructed bystanders to obtain an AED, which was registered with the TCAD Paramedics Public Access Defibrillation Program.
Dispatcher Marissa Mackey instructed the 911 caller on how to use the AED and perform hands-only CPR until paramedics arrived to the scene. The patient was shocked three times before EMS providers arrived and was then breathing, had a strong pulse and was awake.
TCAD Paramedics emphasized knowing what to do when a cardiac arrest occurs is key to saving a life. The agency has partnered with Hollister Rotary and Hollister Chamber of Commerce to offer free hands-only CPR classes to the public. You can find information on the classes here.
