HAMILTON, Mass. — One of the officers at the center of a tumultuous year in the Hamilton Police Department is severing ties with the force tomorrow.
Officer Arthur Hatfield’s application for retirement was unanimously approved yesterday by the Essex Regional Retirement Board. He had originally filed for retirement benefits in early July, asking for the status to become official at the end of the month.
But the retirement board delayed responding until Hatfield’s involvement in an ongoing criminal investigation by the state attorney general’s office was resolved.
