MUNHALL, Pa. — Medics picketed outside a Munhall ambulance service for nearly seven hours Saturday before reaching a tentative agreement.

According to representatives of Local 7 of the Fraternal Association of Professional Paramedics, 22 union paramedics and emergency medical technicians have been working for 10 months without a contract with Munhall Area Prehospital Services.

The nonprofit service, which serves Munhall, Homestead and West Homestead, wanted to cut eight overtime hours per paramedic per week, which would have amounted to a 30 percent reduction in pay, according to the association.

The pickets began at 7 a.m. outside the ambulance service. At noon, union members and the service, along with representatives of all three municipalities, met. The picketing ended at 2 p.m.

The agreement gives back the 48 hours, which will be worked in three 16-hour shifts, according to union members.
