WASHINGTON — The International Association of Emergency Medical Services Chiefs (IAEMSC) announced that Edward J. Gabriel, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response at the United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) will be speaking at the 2012 IAEMSC Leadership Summit to be held October 26-29, 2012 in Washington, DC. Mr. Gabriel will present on the subject of “EMS, Emergency and Disaster Response in the Changing World of Health Care.”
Mr. Gabriel serves as principal advisor to the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR) on all matters pertaining to and in support of HHS’ public health emergency preparedness, response and recovery activities, programs and policies. He provides strategic oversight with emphasis on enhancing state and local preparedness, policies and plans relating to public health and medical emergencies, emergency response operations, financial analysis and advanced development and manufacturing of critical medical countermeasures for man-made and naturally occurring public health threats.
“Mr. Gabriel brings a wealth of public and private sector experience to the 2012 Summit,” said William Sugiyama, IAEMSC President. “His executive experience at the Walt Disney Company, in addition to twenty-six years of service with the New York City Fire Department (FDNY) Emergency Medical Service and New York City Office of Emergency Management is a welcome addition to the program.”
The Summit targets middle and senior leaders in emergency medical services (EMS), and has included attendees from across the United States in addition to representatives from the international EMS community. The IAEMSC Summit will include briefings from key federal officials and subject matter experts on community preparedness and response, legal and legislative issues, and national preparedness policy.
