PORTLAND, Ore. — Four lawsuits brought by women who claimed to have been molested by an EMT while being transported in an ambulance have settled just weeks after an Oregon jury awarded another woman more than $3 million.
All the lawsuits alleged claims including wrongful retention and supervision by ambulance company American Medical Response, had received complaints that paramedic Lannie Haszard had sexually assaulted women, yet failed to act to keep him away from patients. Haszard is now in prison on a sexual assault conviction.
In September a jury awarded one victim, Royshekka Herring, $3.25 million in compensatory and statutory damages after one of its paramedics groped a woman while she was semiconscious and being rushed to a hospital. The verdict was reported in the Lawyers USA story: $3M to victim of ambulance molestation
The trial of a sixth woman is still set to go forward to trial.
