WALTHAM, Mass. — A 14-year-old girl survived after being pinned under a car Thursday afternoon through the rescue efforts of off-duty police officers and a firefighter.
WCVB reported that the girl and an 18-year-old man were hit by a car leaving a parking lot as they walked on the sidewalk. The man was thrown to the side, but the girl was dragged under the car and trapped.
Off-duty Waltham Police Officer Jeffrey Fogg witnessed the crash, ran across the street to a muffler shop and got a jack to lift the car up, according to the report.
Officer Fogg, along Sgt. Steven Fournier and firefighter Matthew MacEwen, who were also off-duty, used the jack to lift the car up and get the girl out.
The girl was taken to a hospital with serious injuries. The man was treated for minor injuries.
Police said the driver did not appear to be impaired and the crash is under investigation, according to the report.
