MANCHESTER, N.H. — A former volunteer firefighter and EMT’s training kicked into gear when she saw a car crash into a gas pump in Manchester, sending flames shooting into the air.
Rebecca Grosso, who works across the street from the gas station, ran to the pump Monday and helped the male driver from the car, then ran around the other side and pulled his young granddaughter to safety as flames licked around the vehicle.
Neither suffered serious injuries.
Firefighters tell WMUR-TV that gas station employees quickly used a remote shut off so the fuel didn’t catch fire and the flames were brought under control quickly.
Investigators think the driver had some sort of medical emergency and blacked out before hitting the pump.
