AIRWAY HEIGHTS, Wash. — A training company in Washington is changing its curriculum to get EMTs trained faster.
KREM.com reported Spokane EMTs are getting hands-on training early on and throughout the course of training instead of at the end like in traditional courses.
“The people walking around, the people yelling for help, it gets you in the mindset,” EMT student Anthony Christianson said.
Students are tested with a variety of hands-on training scenarios to prepare them for real world situations they might face.
“A picture or a YouTube video can’t talk about sharp metal and broken glass and other things,” Christianson said.
Instructors said this is only the second time they have introduced students to the hands-on training this early in the course, but the new training schedule is important to get students up to speed.
“We think it’s a pretty pivotal part of the classroom,” EMT Instructor Shaun Pitts said.
