LOGAN COUNTY, W.Va. — A West Virginia man is accused of kicking an EMT and a law enforcement officer and trying to escape custody after being treated for an overdose Sunday.

According to the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, Davey Trent was in the back of an ambulance receiving medical aid for an overdose when he kicked an EMT in the nose.

“His nose began pouring blood immediately,” deputies wrote.

A Logan County corporal and deputy placed Trent under arrest, and while he was being driven to the sheriff’s office for processing, he allegedly slipped out of his handcuffs, tried to get into the front seat of the vehicle and kicked the corporal in the right arm.

Trent was ultimately transported directly to jail and is now charged with malicious assault on an EMS worker, battery on EMS causing injury, battery on law enforcement and attempted escape. He was also found to have an outstanding warrant for failure to appear.
