NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — A Massachusetts paramedic was assaulted while caring for a patient in the back of an ambulance on Saturday.
Northern Berkshire EMS said in a statement on Tuesday that one of its paramedics was physically assaulted and injured on duty, and transported to the hospital for treatment.
“The Paramedic is home recovering but has many injuries that require additional treatment and healing,” officials wrote.
The agency did not disclose further details about the assault or the nature of the injuries and did not say whether the suspect was a patient.
The incident is under investigation by the Williamstown Police Department.
“Thank you to everyone for reaching out and for words of support. Events like this show the potential dangers of this profession and show the amount of camaraderie amongst the professional responder community,” the agency said in a statement. “This event impacts all of our employees and our colleagues from EMS, Police and Fire agencies throughout the region.”
