NAPA, Calif. — A California paramedic was stabbed by a patient while en route to the hospital, police say.
EMS providers fled the AMR ambulance after Napa police say the patient “had an episode” and “decided it would be a good idea to stab a paramedic pair of scissors or shears,” according to the Napa Valley Register.
Officers found the patient in the driver’s seat when they arrived, prompting them to block the rig to prevent it from driving off. The officers negotiated with the patient, who ultimately surrendered.
The paramedic was transported in another ambulance and was treated for a non-serious stab wound, according to Napa Police Lt. Chase Haag.
The patient was reportedly being transported for mental health treatment at the time of the incident. It is unclear whether the patient will face charges.
