ILLAWARRA, New South Wales — An Australian paramedic was badly injured after he was attacked during a charity bike ride.

NewsHub.com reported that paramedic Daniel Mansbridge, a 16-year veteran paramedic, was “shoulder charged” by a teenager before two others beat him on the ground. He was seriously injured and must undergo eye surgery. He will likely be out of work for at least a month.

Mansbridge was competing in the charity ride to raise money for child cancer research, according to a GoFundMe page.

“We hope anyone who saw this or know the people will come forward,” Norm Rees, Illawarra Ambulance NSW duty operation manager, said. “This is not good enough; we need these people charged.”

Police, who labeled the attack as “disgraceful,” are currently investigating the incident.

“For this to happen to any member of the public is totally outrageous,” Illawarra Chief Inspector Brian Pedersen said.
