LOUGHBOROUGH, England — A paramedic who tweeted about being criticized while getting food said he received a huge amount of support from the public.
BBC reported that East Midlands Ambulance Service duty operations manager Tim Hargraves was making a food stop during a 10-hour shift when a stranger made a rude comment.
“I had to wait for an ambulance, nice you have time to eat,” Hargraves said he was told.
Hargraves tweeted about the incident, adding that the food break was cut short five minutes later when he and his crew “responded to a cardiac arrest.”
A flood of positive messages followed Hargraves tweet.
“I’m so sorry that you have to overhear such negativity,” Twitter user Krissie said. “You do a great service to us all.”
“Self-care is so important,” Twitter user Chris Bishop said. “You can only continue to do the brilliant job you do on a ‘full tank’.”
“And the same people who made those snide comments would work such lengthy shifts without a small break?” Twitter user Karen Humphries said.
Hargraves said the support after his tweet was “amazing.”
“It’s really great to see the majority appreciate our role and have an understanding of the pressures we face.”
