NEWBERRY COUNTY, SC — A group of South Carolina 911 dispatchers offered a gesture of appreciation for truck drivers helping ship goods and supplies across the country during the COVID-19 pandemic by handing out free prepackaged meals at a weigh station.
The dispatchers from Newberry County gave out a total of 50 meals after hearing that truckers were having trouble getting food from drive-throughs and rest stops as businesses shut down due to the crisis, according to WLTX.
Newberry County Sheriff Lee Foster said he was proud of the dispatchers for giving back, saying his department wouldn’t be able to receive the supplies it needed without the work of truck drivers.
County 911 Supervisor Terri Lawson said the truckers seemed surprised but grateful to receive the meals, and that the team plans to give out more in the near future.
