SYDNEY — Commuters banded together to tilt a train in Perth, Australia and free a man trapped between a carriage and the platform Wednesday, media reports said.
The man is seen stumbling as he gets onto the train, with his left leg caught in the gap, in footage released by the Public Transport Authority.
Stirling Station staff come to his aid and soon scores of commuters arriving to board are seen lining the train and pushing it to a tilt.
Transperth spokesman David Hynes told broadcaster ABC the man boarded the Perth-bound coach at the tail-end of peak hour, but it was still fairly busy.
He said the driver was instructed to keep the train stationary.
“Then our staff who were there at the time got the passengers, and there were lots of them, off the train, and organized them to sort of rock, tilt the train backwards away from the platform so they were able to get him out and rescue him,” Hynes said.
“It was people power that saved someone from possibly quite serious injury.”
