BRONX, N.Y. — Researchers are studying the use of emergency medical identification. The researchers hope to answer three questions with their survey of EMS providers:
1. What types of emergency medical identification are EMS providers aware of?
2. What information is helpful to have in emergency medical identification?
3. Do EMS providers think that children should have emergency medical identification?
The survey, which takes 5-10 minutes to complete, looks at the experiences of EMS providers in finding and using information found in emergency medical identification.
The Children’s Hospital at Montefiore and Albert Einstein College of Medicine study also investigates awareness of a newer form of emergency medical identification that may become more popular.
Responses from EMS providers will be used to make recommendations to adult and pediatric patients about which types of emergency medical identification to use and what information they should include to help first responders provide timely care.
Send questions about the survey to Dr. Kristina Derrick at kderrick@montefiore.org.
