LOS ANGELES COUNTY — Dick Van Dyke sustained “minor injuries” in a single-car collision in Southern California, officials confirmed Wednesday.
The star of “The Dick Van Dyke Show,” 97, was the driver in the crash in Malibu, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department told the Daily News.
Van Dyke’s 2018 Lexus LS 500 sedan hit a gate, and he received medical attention from paramedics at the scene, according to People. He was not hospitalized.
An agent for Van Dyke did not immediately respond to a Daily News request for further comment.
Van Dyke is known for award-winning performances across film, TV and Broadway. He made his Broadway debut in 1959 with “The Girls Against the Boys,” won a Tony two years later as an original cast member in “Bye Bye Birdie” and played the main role in “The Music Man” in 1980.
He won three Emmys for “The Dick Van Dyke Show,” which aired from 1961-66, and is known as well for musical films such as “Mary Poppins” and “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.”
The actor won his fourth Emmy in 1976 for the variety show “Van Dyke and Company” and won his lone Grammy for his contributions to the “Mary Poppins” soundtrack.
Van Dyke has continued to make appearances in recent years, including a cameo in the 2018 sequel “Mary Poppins Returns” starring Emily Blunt and Lin-Manuel Miranda. He was revealed as a contestant on the ninth season of “The Masked Singer” earlier this year.
