Video: Mich. coaches learn how to respond to cardiac arrest

Coaches, athletic directors and administrators were getting information and learning techniques that could mean the difference between life and death

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — If another west Michigan athlete collapses and goes into cardiac arrest, doctors and paramedics want school staff to have knowledge that could save the student’s life.

“We want to empower them,” says West Michigan Heart Electrophysiologist Dr. Nagib Chalfoun. “We want to empower each of the schools to have their own program.”

After a game last month 16 year old Fennville High School player Wes Leonard died from a cardiac arrest.
