HARRISBURG, Pa. — A former EMT claims early detection and extraordinary care saved him after suffering a massive heart attack.

Retired EMT Larry Roberts told Local 21 News that he had no symptoms, no chest pain and no shortness of breath when the November 2016 incident happened.

“I was not afraid and the paramedic on the ambulance was treating me very appropriately,” he said. “I’m here. I shouldn’t be here.”

Once he got the ER, he coded twice. Doctors put in a heart pump, which is inserted like a catheter into the heart and pumps blood around blocked arteries.

Five bypasses and three stents later, Roberts said he’s feeling back to himself.
