SAN FRANCISCO —A veteran firefighter-paramedic who delivered a baby in his second year on the job was able to reflect on the experience during a reunion decades later.
San Francisco Fire Department firefighter-paramedic Chris Posey said he remembers welcoming Marcial Pacek, dubbed the “Bay Bridge Baby,” on Feb. 12, 1990 “like it was yesterday,” NBC Bay Area reported.
“Woman in labor at toll plaza number 14. That’s all the information we got,” Posey said.
The two were able to reunite at SFFD headquarters after Pacek, who is now an EMT himself, did some research on his birth story.
“I love what you guys do. I love working as an EMT,” Pacek told Posey and the other responders at the station. “I haven’t had any deliveries, though.”
Posey said the delivery was a highlight of his career.
“I will always remember how he looked and cried and how he felt in my arms,” Posey said. “I always wondered what happened to the kid.”
The veteran responder said Pacek’s decision to become an EMT means the world to him.
“It’s kind of like my career has come full circle,” he said.
