INDIANAPOLIS –– Members of the Indianapolis Fire Department were reunited with a newborn they delivered last month when her mother went into emergency labor at her home.
Several first responders assisted in helping Marissa Wheeler deliver her baby three weeks early after she realized she was not going to make it to the hospital, 13 WTHR reported.
On May 14, Marissa and her husband, Mike, tried to leave for the hospital before Marissa nixed the plan.
“Nope, we’re not going to make it,” she told Mike. “Call 911.”
Eamon Clark, an IFD dispatcher, answered the call and provided instructions.
“With his calm, professional and compassionate demeanor, Eamon gave Mike specific instructions to help assess Marissa’s condition, reassure her and keep Marissa calm as they awaited the crew’s arrival,” IFD said in a Facebook post.
Firefighter-EMT Chris Williams, Firefighter-EMT Eric Owens, Engineer/Paramedic Mike Roethler and IEMS Paramedic Heather Hart arrived on the scene and helped deliver Kynleigh Rose Wheeler into the world.
Marissa and Mike reached out to the IFD about visiting with the first responders who assisted her that day, and they were thrilled to invite the family to the station, including big sister, Braelynn, who had a chance to explore the fire trucks.
