2 arrested for assaulting Pa. paramedics

A female paramedic was pushed off the porch and suffered a concussion, neck pain and bruising

BEAVER TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Two Pennsylvania residents have been arrested after assaulting responding paramedics.

ExploreClarion.com reported criminal charges have been filed against Michael Duane Kaufman and Destiny Lee Smith-Kaufman for aggravated assault and related offenses.

Police were dispatched to the scene after reports that a male patient was assaulting three paramedics who were trying to help him. When they arrived, Kaufman was flailing his arms and had struck both paramedics. He then allegedly pushed a female paramedic off the porch, resulting in a concussion, neck pain and bruising on her legs and back.

After the assault, Kaufman went back into the house and refused to come out until police arrived.

When police entered the home, they found Destiny Smith-Kaufman lying on top of Michael Kaufman. She ignored police instructions to get off of Kaufman so he could be treated by paramedics. Police grabbed her arms in an attempt to move her and she screamed at them she was pregnant. One of the police officers let go of her arm and she then hit him twice in the face.

Smith-Kaufman was handcuffed and paramedics were able to move Kaufman into the ambulance.
