RAPHO TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A patient was arrested and charged with aggravated assault after allegedly punching and spitting blood on a female EMT.
Lancaster Online reported that Darren Lawrence was being transported to the hospital for an apparent overdose at a McDonald’s when he began acting violently and making rude comments to the EMT before punching her, according to police.
The EMS provider driving the ambulance immediately pulled over and called police. Officials said Lawrence kept swinging his arms and spit blood at the female EMT while the crew waited for officers to arrive. He was eventually administered a sedative.
Police said the woman was struck so hard the wind was knocked out of her and she experienced severe nausea and pain.
Lawrence was taken to the hospital and left in the care of security, according to police.
