FORT COLLINS, Colo. — A judge declared a mistrial Tuesday in the court case of an EMT charged with child abuse.
EMT Jason Schneider, 30, was charged with felonious child abuse after his 4-month-old son sustained serious head injuries Feb. 18. The court case began Nov. 29, reported the Coloradoan.
Schneider pleaded not guilty, but a deadlocked jury could not decide a verdict following testimony from investigators, medical experts and witnesses. Schneider told first responders his son lost consciousness and began choking while he was feeding him baby formula.
Prosecutors questioned whether or not Schneider’s 911 call depicts him violently shaking the boy or being distraught over the incident.
Schneider is out on bond. A new trial is expected to begin Feb. 21, 2017.
Doctors said they doubt Schneider’s son will recover from the incident.. Investigators said the boy had head trauma consistent with shaken baby syndrome.
