DARBY TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A newborn baby has been hospitalized and is missing part of her face after being mauled by three pet ferrets.
The attack happened as she sat in a car seat while her mother was upstairs sleeping, FOX News reports.
The baby is in stable condition, and child welfare services has placed other children at the home with family members, saying the living conditions were unfit.
Police Chief Robert Smythe said the attack on the newborn is one of the worst things he’s ever seen.
“I’m a cop,” he said. “I’ve been one for 45 years and this is the most horrific thing I’ve seen happen to a child in 45 years in this town. These kids need to be protected; all five of them.”
