KANAWHA, W. Va. — A female driver slammed into an ambulance Tuesday night before fleeing the scene.

Just before 8:30 p.m., a Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority ambulance was turning left from U.S. 119 into the lot of Hardee’s Restaurant in Big Chimney when a female driving a white Buick came across the parking lot “at a high rate of speed and smashed into the ambulance,” according to Capt. The Buick struck the driver’s door area of the ambulance. Thomas Robinson, 26, of Cross Lanes and passenger Karrie Cunningham, 34, were taken to CAMC General Hospital for treatment.

According to the sheriff’s department, the Buick sustained heavy front-end damage from the collision. Medics told the sheriff’s department the female suspect appeared to be “under the influence of an unknown substance.”
