CLEVELAND — A woman created a pet ambulance to help residents whose pets experience a medical emergency.
News5 reported that Yalanda Medina’s company, Squad FiftyOne, uses transformed squad cars that are fully equipped with oxygen tanks and medical supplies to transport animals around the state of Ohio.
“I’m disabled … and I was wondering how I was going to get him down three flights of steps and back up,” pet owner Shelly Ringer recalled about calling Squad FiftyOne to transport her dog. “And it worked out great; it was like a God-send.”
Medina said she was inspired to start the service after her dog became ill and she had nowhere to turn.
“I was just scared and panicked and I didn’t have any help,” Medina said.
Medina said the service does “some of everything,” and she has a team of six employees, consisting of vet techs, nurses and paramedics who properly care for the animals.
“We do 24 hour triage, and transport for animals,” Medina said. “It’s really important to keep a cool head when you’re dealing with these types of situations, even if it’s a non-emergency.”
