Driver will be cited for failing to yield to an emergency vehicle

LOWELL, Mass. — An ambulance attempting to cross an intersection was hit by another vehicle yesterday morning, sending the ambulance driver, a passenger and the driver of the other vehicle to the hospital.

Police said the crash occurred at 9:30 a.m. at the intersection of Branch and School streets.

Capt. Randall Humphrey said the three people hurt did not sustain life-threatening injuries.

The ambulance, belonging to the Trinity Ambulance Company, had activated its emergency lights and siren at the time of the crash.

Humphrey said the driver of the second vehicle will be cited for failing to yield to an emergency vehicle.

Police did not release any names.
