WESTERNPORT, Md. — Two Frostburg Area Ambulance Service crew members and an Allegany County Bureau of Police officer sustained minor injuries when their vehicles collided early Friday during response to a reported pedestrian accident at Stoney Run Road.

The initial call was placed to the Allegany County 911 center at 12:48 a.m. as a pedestrian accident involving a seriously injured person. The accident was later determined to have involved a 15-year-old who was riding in the bed of a pickup truck being driven by his father. The youth was thrown to the front of the truck and injured when the driver applied the brakes, according to the Bureau of Police.

At 1:08 a.m., a 2005 Ford Crown Victoria police cruiser operated by Officer Jeff Fairley was responding to the call and rounding a curve in the roadway in the area of the Waverly Street Bridge when he struck a 2005 Chevrolet ambulance that was making a U-turn in the roadway and positioning to drop off a paramedic to an awaiting Tri-Towns Rescue Squad ambulance.
