ROBINSON, Pa. —The death of a Robinson woman after a traffic accident involving the ambulance carrying her was from natural causes and not the collision, according to preliminary autopsy results released today.
Medical examiners determined cardiovascular disease caused Leslie Thompson’s death and found no trauma linked to the accident, a spokeswoman for the Allegheny County medical examiner’s office said.
Thompson, 63, collapsed in her home shortly after 3:30 p.m. Saturday, according to the medical examiner’s office spokeswoman. A Robinson Emergency Medical Services ambulance responded to a 911 call at the home and was driving her to Ohio Valley General Hospital when it collided with a van in the 1800 block of McKees Rocks Road.
The accident occurred at 4:11 p.m. The spokeswoman said Thompson was transferred to another Robinson EMS ambulance but died in the emergency room at Ohio Valley General Hospital at 4:33 p.m.
Attempts to reach a spokesman for the ambulance company yesterday were unsuccessful.
Four ambulance workers were treated for minor injuries and released, the medical examiner’s office spokesman said.
Attempts to reach the ambulance company have been unsuccessful.
Robinson police deferred comment to Kennedy police. A Kennedy police dispatcher deferred calls to Chief Anthony G. Bruni, who she said could not be reached for comment until Monday.
